Can I dry out my hearing aids in uncooked rice?

The short answer is – YES, you can.

A study conducted in 2017 shows uncooked rice as a good alternative to commercial desiccants.

However, we recommend rice be used only in emergencies and not as a long-term replacement to commercial desiccants. Rice is organic and eventually breaks down into particles which may enter and damage the hearing aid’s electronic components.

It is better to stick to commercial desiccants or electric dryer kits for daily use (see below).

Orange desiccant pellets absorbs moisture from the hearing aid.

Electric hearing aid dryers come with heat, air current and UV-light to both dry and disinfect the hearing aid.
