Nucleus® Nexa™ Implant – a smart cochlear implant

The Nucleus Nexa Implant is the “brains” of the Cochlear Nucleus Nexa System. It is described as the world’s first smart cochlear implant, with:

Internal memory that securely stores a patient’s MAPs (hearing program) on the implant itself
Upgradeable firmware, so future features may be added via a firmware update instead of additional surgery*
A design that supports dynamic power management, helping the system adapt its power use across the day while supporting all-day battery life with Nexa sound processors

This means your unique hearing settings can “travel” with you, even if you change to a new compatible sound processor in future.

*Not all firmware updates are available in all countries. Your audiologist will advise on approved updates in Singapore.

Cochlear™ Nucleus® Profile™ Plus (CI1000 Series) Electrode Arrays

Alongside the Nucleus Nexa Implant and Nexa sound processors, Cochlear offers the Nucleus Profile Plus (CI1000 Series) electrode arrays to suit different cochlear anatomies and surgical goals. These electrode arrays are designed to support hearing preservation where possible, and to position the electrode contacts optimally within the cochlea for hearing performance in patients with severe to profound hearing loss.

Slim Modiolar Electrode

The Slim Modiolar Electrode is a perimodiolar electrode with 22 half-banded contacts, designed for hearing preservation surgeries. Its electrode contacts are positioned to sit closer to the hearing nerve (modiolus), which can support improved electrical stimulation efficiency and may contribute to better hearing performance in patients with severe to profound hearing loss.

Slim Straight Electrode

The Slim Straight Electrode is a straight electrode array designed to be positioned along the lateral wall of the cochlea. It offers:

20 mm or 25 mm depth of insertion (active length: 20 mm)
22 half-banded contacts arranged to provide coverage of the cochlear frequency range
A lateral wall placement approach that can be considered in certain anatomical or surgical scenarios

Contour Advance Electrode

The Contour Advance Electrode is a traditional perimodiolar electrode array with 22 half-banded contacts and a SoftTip design to support gentle insertion. It has a thicker profile than the Slim Modiolar electrode and is intended to sit closer to the modiolus, allowing the electrode contacts to be positioned nearer to the hearing nerve.

The choice of electrode array depends on individual cochlear anatomy, degree and configuration of hearing loss, and the surgeon’s preferred surgical technique (including hearing preservation goals). Your ENT surgeon and cochlear implant audiologist will discuss which Nucleus Profile Plus electrode option is most appropriate for you or your child.

The Latest Implant Cochlear ™ Nucleus® Profile™ Plus (CI600 Series)

Cochlear offers a wide range of electrodes arrays* with the highest reliability rate on the market.

Cochlear’s latest generation of implants is the Nucleus Profile Plus Series. It features:

– World’s thinnest full-length perimodiolar electrode.

– Designed to best fit a cochlear’s natural shape and preserve the natural structures during surgery.

– Newly designed implant coil plates either side of a magnet pocket which contains a removable magnet cassette. This design allows for easy magnet removal and replacement for MRI.

Nucleus® 8 Nexa Sound Processor – behind-the-ear comfort and control

The Nucleus 8 Nexa Sound Processor is a behind-the-ear (BTE) processor for the Nucleus Nexa Implant. It is positioned as one of the smallest and lightest BTE cochlear implant sound processors, while still offering advanced sound processing and connectivity.

Small, light and discreet
Designed to be very small and lightweight, helping adults and children wear it comfortably throughout the day, even with glasses or masks.
SmartSound® iQ 2 with SCAN 2
The processor senses whether you are in quiet, noise, wind or music and automatically adjusts microphone directionality and noise reduction to help you hear speech more clearly in different environments.
ForwardFocus
A clinician-enabled feature that can reduce noise coming from behind and around you, so you can focus on the person in front. It can be controlled in the Nucleus Smart App or automated, depending on your fitting.
Future-ready connectivity
Direct streaming from compatible Apple and Android devices (calls, music, podcasts and learning apps), and a design that is ready for Bluetooth® LE Audio and Auracast™ broadcast audio as these technologies roll out.*
Water and dust resistance
With compatible configurations, Nucleus 8 Nexa meets IP68 water and dust resistance ratings and can be used with Aqua+ for extra protection during water activities, according to Cochlear’s guidelines.

Kanso® 3 Nexa Sound Processor – off-the-ear, all-in-one design

If you prefer not to wear anything behind your ear, the Kanso 3 Nexa Sound Processor sits fully off-the-ear as a single compact processor on the head. It is described as one of the world’s smallest and lightest rechargeable off-the-ear cochlear implant sound processors.

Good for people who wear glasses, masks or oxygen tubing, or for children who find a BTE processor hard to keep on.
